We support Post Conflict Regions

We currently work with 2 communities:
Lira Region , Northern Uganda
   Swat Valley, Northern Pakistan
In each region we work with local delivery partners to ensure high and stable rates of our services.  Their local knowledge. Their understanding of the local culture. Their awareness of the local language gives us a deep and unique insight.  This approach also allows us to ensure the impact levels and success rates are high.

In the Lira region, we support communities with incomes below $5 a day.
Gap Minder rates this post conflict region as Income Level 2.  Commonly, people in this income bracket work in physically demanding jobs. They are at the bottom end of the saving scale. They find it difficult to access transportation.  They eat basic food. They can access basic food staples like meat, eggs and vegetables, if available at local shops.  They have unstable access to electricity.  They can also afford basic medication, but any major illness is a financial challenge.

In Lira region we work with WSV Global.   They design micro franchises for communities with below $3 a day income.  These business in a box solutions have a high success rate and is a great way to introduce locals to the concept of entrepreneurship.  They provide community level solutions which promote adoption eco friendly products and services.  Each business in a box helps 3 to  5 locals transform into entrepreneurs. Their support includes training, inventory and business mentoring for each micro business they help set up.   BizGees work with WSV focuses on helping local refugees access entrepreneurship.

Betty - Our first refugee entrepreneur

Betty is an entrepreneur.  She now lives in the village of Ayuu Falls in Northern Uganda. She is married with four children, one son and three daughters. She has undertaken training and set up the Right Light micro business. She is renting solar lights to the local community. Supporting residents migrate away from using kerosene oil.

With BizGees’ support she has started her business and her users have already taken to her. Betty’s client base is growing as we speak. The impact on the community is significant. Lighting allows students to study at home. It supports businesses to trade for longer hours beyond daylight. There are also health benefits. The solar lamps replace the harmful use of Kerosene lamps. Kerosene lamps have the same effect as smoking 40 cigarettes per day. It also consumes as much as 20% of household income.

In the Swat Valley, BizGees supports an artisan community.
This post conflict region has a strong artisanal heritage.   It has been part of the Silk Road.  This artisan community fits the income Level 3 according to  Gap Minder.   Commonly, people in this income bracket work in local trades like weaving, nursing and hair dressing. They are also the largest group to experience displacement.  They have access to electricity and basic transportation like a moped.  In the case of the Swat Valley.  This group of artisans specialize in hand made  high end wool based products. They are struggling to pick themselves up.   Industrialisation is crowding out the demand for their hand made products.  Climate change means more frequent flooding locally.   Women artisans are particularly impacted. In the Swat Valley, BizGees works with the Swat Valley, Guild.  They are an economic regeneration project promoting the Swat Valley to the world.  They specialise in helping the local community engage with the global market place.  They support local artisans access a $65 billion global marketplace.

The Guild has co created designs and products with UK based designers.  They use Build a Nest Standards so all the local production can plug into the global supply chains.  This means all products are made using global eco and ethical standards. They also ensure women can work from home and earn 25% above the market rates.
