We support refugees across the world, including Internally Displaced Communities.
We currently work with 2 communities:
1. Lira Region , Northern Uganda
2. Swat Valley, Northern Pakistan
1. Lira Region , Northern Uganda
2. Swat Valley, Northern Pakistan
In each region we work with local delivery partners. This ensures the adoption rate of our services is high and stable. Their local knowledge. Their understanding of the local culture. Their awareness of the local language gives us a deep and unique insight. This approach also allows us to ensure the impact levels and success rates are high.
In the Lira region, we support below $5 a day communities.
This post conflict region is Income Level 2 according to Gap Minder. Commonly, people in this income bracket work in physically demanding work. They are at the bottom end of the saving scale. They find it difficult to access transportation. They eat basic food. They can access basic food staples like meat, eggs and vegetables from local shops. They have unstable access to electricity. They can also afford basic medication, but any major illness is a financial challenge.

In Lira region we work with WSV Global. They design micro franchises for below $3 a day communities. These business in a box solutions have a high success rate and is a great way to introduce people to the concept of entrepreneurship. They provide community level solutions which promote adoption eco friendly products and services. Each business in a ox helps 3- 5 people become entrepreneurs. Part of their support includes training, inventory and business mentoring for each micro business they help set up. Our work with them focuses on helping local refugees access entrepreneurship.
Betty
Betty is one such entrepreneur — now based in the village of Ayuu Falls in Northern Uganda. She is married with four children, one boy and three girls. She has undertaken training and set up the Right Light micro business, renting solar lights to the local community residents supporting them migrate away from using kerosene oil
With BizGees’ support she has started her business and her users have already taken to her. Betty’s client base is growing as we speak. The impact on the community is significant. Lighting allows students to study at home and for businesses to trade for longer hours beyond daylight. There are also health benefits — the solar lamps replace the harmful use of Kerosene lamps which can have the same effect as smoking 40 cigarettes per day and consume as much as 20% of household income.

In the Swat Valley, we support an artisan community.
This post conflict region has a strong artisan heritage. It has been part of the Silk Road. It fits the income Level 3 according to Gap Minder. Commonly, people in this income bracket work in local trades like weaving, nursing and hair dressing. They are also the largest group to expereince displacement. They have access to electricity and basic transportation like a moped. In the case of the Swat Valley. This group of artisans specialize in hand made high end wool based products. They are struggling to pick themselves up again. Industrialisation is crowding out the demand for their hand made products. Climate change means local flooding rates have gone up. Women artisans are particularly impacted. They find it difficult to commute for work away from home. (For more information on Level 3 income groups click here )

Luxury for Rent
We have worked with the Swat Valley Guild to organise a circular economy solution. By renting luxury products the Swat Valley produces we help more people access luxury and provide a sustainable livelihood for the artisans.
