We stand for the dignity and self-empowerment of refugees.
Kickstarting the micro-finance of refugee startups: Startup Boxes.
Why this, now?
Our founding team have successful careers as entrepreneurs, startup mentors, and consultants. We always see grit and invincible resourcefulness as overriding factors of successful entrepreneurs. Guess what? Most refugees have that in super abundance. It’s a basic matter of personal survival. To move out of their conditions, often they just need a place to start. A proven business model and interest-free microloans to buy products they can rent or sell to local customers is all they need to regain control of their lives.
BizGees provides more than seed funding. We arrange for training, which involves six months of local business mentoring and access to inventory. This lowers their risk of failure as a first- time entrepreneur from 90% to 10%, for their first ventures.
Job creation, from the bottom up
We are starting with low-income refugee communities living on $5 a day. Our financial support helps them and their immediate family. It also generates new jobs in their host countries. Our proven business model brings together 3-5 refugees. It provides the structure and training of a successful micro-business.
Over the first 12 months of operations the typical refugee startup will create another 10 job for family and tribal members, who earn cash that they can then spend in local markets. In the process they regain some of their dignity and economic autonomy. They begin to grow a future and make investments in the education of their children. We speed their entry into the financial system by organizing a credit history. This history of borrowings and repayments is acceptable to local banks and lenders.
Our approach comes with a much lower failure rate, just 10 percent. This stands in sharp contrast to a 90 percent failure rate for first-time entrepreneurs
